This week’s married middle school English teacher busted for traumatizing a 16-year-old male student by allegedly arranging to have sex with him is Emily Lofing.

Lofing, 27, taught — until just recently — at Nebraska City Middle School in Nebraska City, Nebraska (pop: 7,289), according to the Omaha World-Herald.

On Monday, local authorities charged Lofing with debauching a minor.

The charge stems from an allegedly scheduled encounter over the summer with the unidentified 16-year-old male for “the purpose of sexual penetration,” according to court documents obtained by Omaha ABC affiliate KETV.

It’s not clear if the sexual penetration scheduled back in July actually occurred, or if it had merely been scheduled.

In any event, Nebraska law allows anyone who is 16 years old to consent to sex. Thus, as Otoe County prosecutor attorney David Partsch has explained, Lofing can only be subject to the charge of debauching a minor.

Lofing resigned from her job as a teacher hours after she was charged.

Lofing began teaching in Nebraska City at the beginning of this year after a previous stint in nearby Weeping Water, about 30 minutes down the road.

She reportedly got married in June 2014.

The 16-year-old male student with whom Lofing allegedly scheduled a meeting for “the purpose of sexual penetration” appears to have attended school in Weeping Water.

“The district recently discovered information related to Ms. Lofing’s conduct prior to her employment with the school district,” a Nebraska City school district statement said, fairly cryptically, according to the World-Herald.

Omaha NBC affiliate WOWT obtained an email from the mother of a second mother in Weeping Water alleging that Lofing was also having sexual encounters with her son.

Lofing left her teaching job in Weeping Waters on good terms, the school district superintendent in the 1,050-person Nebraska town told WOWT.

The charge of debauching a minor carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a fine of $1,000 in Nebraska.

Lofing’s next court date is scheduled for March 13.
