Geraldo Rivera is calling out the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) for going against Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and President Donald Trump’s bill to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Geraldo appeared Wednesday evening on Fox News’s “O’Reilly Factor” explaining he believes the HFC formed a coup. The failure of the American Health Care Act is not on Trump or Ryan’s shoulders, but on the HFC, according to Geraldo.
“The health care, I don’t blame President Trump and I don’t blame Speaker Ryan for the failure of the health care bill,” Geraldo said. “What you have there was the knife being in the back, the treason, the treachery of the Freedom Caucus, what is the freedom caucus, 40 or so congresspeople.”
The HFC, led by Chairman Mark Meadows, proved to be a formidable road block for Republican leadership. Leading up to the vote, Meadows was outspoken in his opposition to both the bill itself and the manner in which leadership handled its roll out. “Our leadership is going to put forth a bill that does not address any of the concerns in a meaningful way and will dare us to vote against it,” Meadows said. Trump and Ryan pulled the AHCA just hours before it was scheduled to go up for a vote on the House floor Friday afternoon. The HFC was able to whip conservatives in standing against the bill, and that proved, along with unanimous opposition from House Democrats, to be enough to kill the legislation.
The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!

The president tweeted out Thursday morning a message in line with Geraldo’s statements.
