Austrian Federal Minister of Defense Hans Peter Doskozil expressed fear about the Islamization of the Balkans in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt Tuesday.

“We can see the slow Islamization in the Balkans. The European Union is losing its influence in the Balkans. Turkey and Saudi Arabia, in contrast, are increasing their influence,” said Doskozil, adding that it undermines the balance of power and is a threat to democracy in the Balkans.

Doskozil noted that Turkey and Saudi Arabia in particular are spreading Islamic values into Balkan States, in particular in Serbia, Albania and Kosovo, while pushing out EU values. Serbia’s Muslim population is 3.1 percent, Albania’s is 56.7 percent and Kosovo’s is 95.6 percent according to the most recent CIA Factbook.

Doskozil’s warning to Europe evoked similar remarks Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo made to the Polish Parliament, saying her country would not accept any refugees following the Manchester terror bombing.
