Margot Robbie just released a sneak peek of her new movie “I, Tonya” and it’s unlike anything the Australian actress has ever done.
Robbie plays disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding from her younger years as a professional figure skater on through to the incident at the 1994 Winter Olympics that made her infamous.
In the clip, which Robbie shared on her Instagram, we see brief glimpses of her on the ice in competition as well as shots of the incident with rival figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and the media backlash that followed.
“America, they want someone to love. But they want someone to hate,” Robbie says in the clip, perfectly imitating the former figure skater’s voice. “And the haters always say, ‘Tonya, tell the truth!’ There’s no such thing as truth. I mean, it’s bullsh*t.”
There are already Oscar expectations for the 27-year-old actresses performance in the role. We’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out but if this short clip is any indication, it would appear that Robbie certainly deserves to be considered.
