A 3-year-old girl was the lone survivor of a plane crash in Russia Wednesday, an occurrence that many commentators are calling “miraculous.”

Zhasmina Leontyeva survived a deadly plane crash in Khabarovsk, a region in Eastern Russia, the Daily Mail reported. The plane crashed just one mile outside of an airport, and the other six passengers and crew on board all died from the impact.

Leontyeva’s mother, Maria, had sent her daughter on the plane to visit her grandmother. Leontyeva’s older brother Danill was the one who told the family about the incident after hearing about it at school.

“I almost turned grey before finding out my daughter is alive,” Leontyeva’s mother said, adding, “I am so sorry for the other passengers.”

After the crash, emergency personnel rushed the little girl to the hospital, only to find that she suffered a minor concussion and fractured ankle from the incident. She is currently conscious and in the hospital recovering with the company of her grandmother before traveling to a larger hospital for treatment in the company of her mother, the Siberian Times reported.

“Luckily she is still small, and did not really understand what happened to her,” her mother said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, currently speculating that it was due to bad weather, technical issues or poor judgment from the crew.
