Former Florida football coach Jim McElwain reached a buyout settlement of $7.5 million with his former school.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell tweeted Tuesday, “Failing to produce evidence of death threats cost former Florida coach Jim McElwain $5.4 million. Florida gives him a $7.5 million buyout. Was due $12.9 million.”

He also added that the entire McElwain debacle cost Florida a stunning $23.8 million over three years.

This whole thing finally puts an end to McElwain’s circus ride tenure with Florida. It all came to a weird crashing end when he appeared to imply that his family had gotten death threats because of Florida’s poor record. Those claims were never proven and he didn’t ever publicly provide proof.

He was soon gone, and his name doesn’t appear to be attached to many coaching openings right now.
