“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough had his co-host, past girlfriend and now fiancé Mika Brzezinski respond to a tweet by President Donald Trump, which called for an investigation into Scarborough’s past.
Trump blasted Scarborough Wednesday, asking when the MSNBC host would be terminated and dredging up an incident from 2001, when a 28-year-old office worker for Scarborough was found dead in his office while he was serving as a U.S. congressman.
Scarborough chose to stay quiet about the incident and had Brzezinski defend him instead. She said Trump crossed the line by calling her fiancé a “murderer” as a tactic to “intimidate” the press. Brzezinski also said Trump’s “bizarre behavior contravenes the Constitution.”
Brzezinski released a statement on behalf of both of them to New York Magazine Wednesday, which was identical to what she said on air.
“I’ll speak for Joe and myself here because Joe has stated that responding to President Trump’s tweets are a waste of his time. Today the president crossed another deeply disturbing line. With his attack on Joe this morning, the chief law enforcement officer of the United States of America advanced a false conspiracy theory to intimidate the press and cause a chilling effect on the 1st Amendment,” Brzezinski wrote in the statement. “Joe and I are not intimidated and his bizarre behavior contravenes both the Constitution and basic moral judgment. This is all we are going to be saying on the matter. We continue to focus on more pressing issues like the nuclear conflict with North Korea. We hope the president will do the same.”

Scarborough has still not mentioned Trump’s tweet, which called for an investigation into the death of Lori Klausutis, who was found dead in Scarborough’s Florida district office in Fort Walton Beach.
