Beloved “Andy Griffith Show” actor Jim Nabors passed away this week. Nabors was best known for his famous portrayal of the beloved character, Gomer Pyle, a clumsy deputy sheriff on the show.
Nabors died peacefully at his home in Hawaii this week, his wife announced.
In the show’s fourth season, the character Pyle left Mayberry to join the Marines. The character was so popular CBS gave Nabors his own spinoff, “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.”
For his lovable portrayal, the Corps bestowed upon Nabors a rare honor: They made him an honorary Marine.
