President Donald Trump called out former FBI Director James Comey Sunday for running the agency with supposed political motives and promised to bring it “back to greatness.”

“After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness,” Trump tweeted.

The president fired Comey in May, citing the former FBI director’s mishandling of the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server while she was serving in former President Barack Obama’s administration.

Trump also said Sunday that he never asked Comey to stop investigating former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Flynn is the first member of the Trump administration to plead guilty in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
